Speed limits in residential areas and school roads across the UK are set to reduce from 30mph to 20mph in phases up to 2026. Switching the speed limit on the Adaptive Speed Limit Reminder sign is an easy and seamless process. The versatility of this sign in this “switchover phase” eliminates the need to replace costly signage, therefore cutting down on waste and negating the need for further spending.

How it works
The Adaptive Speed Limit Reminder is the largest VAS in our Urban Speed Limit range. When a motorist approaches the VAS sign, the radar within the sign measures the driver’s speed. If the vehicle is driving faster than the set speed limit for that road, the LEDs on the sign will illuminate. This sign will then display the set speed limit for that road in a red roundel, along with four amber wig-wags and a “SLOW DOWN” message in white LEDs, ultimately catching the driver’s attention and prompting them to reduce their speed.
By coupling the VAS sign with the data capture optional extra, it is possible to collect valuable insights into traffic patterns such as identifying areas with excessive speeding and evaluating the effectiveness of speed limit enforcement measures.
When purchasing a VAS from Messagemaker Displays, the trigger speed will be pre-programmed by our engineers, making for a quick and easy installation process.
